Gee Whiz...Carla Thomas, and a version was done in the 70's or 80's by Bernadette Peters, and it was pretty good also.

"Gee Whiz" was by Carla Thomas, daughter of singer Rufus Thomas. I'm not sure what year this song came out, but I'm pretty sure it was more like from the early to mid-'60s. She and Rufus recorded for Stax/Volt records in Memphis, a small but successful independent soul label. My favorite song of hers was a fairly obscure hit called "B-A-B-Y", which was VERY soulful, indeed!
