Not me. This is what the socialist party has done to my party. They've used it to push their own agenda. This is not what my party is all about, yet socialists loudly side with this man.
CARACAS, Venezuela - President Hugo Chavez urged soldiers on Sunday to prepare for a guerrilla-style war against the United States, saying that Washington is using psychological and economic warfare as part of an unconventional campaign aimed at derailing his government.
Dressed in olive green fatigues and a red beret, Chavez spoke inside Tiuna Fort — Venezuela's military nerve-center — before hundreds of uniformed soldiers standing alongside armored vehicles and tanks decorated with banners reading: "Fatherland, Socialism, or Death! We will triumph!"
Their ideology has come before their country.
Are socialists still cowardly hiding behind another name or do you condemn the socialists as well. At least I can have some respect for socialists who stand up for what they believe by name.

And become a republican? No, thank you. Republicans may have adopted some of what we made household values: equality, free speech, free expression; but they are far from champions of it. You need us. There's a balance to this country that I'm not ready to tamper with. Republicans may be the backbone of the country, but we're the heart.
(I know I'm going to get a hundred emails from annoying republican and democrat friends giving me corny organ analogies, but I'm corny. I love this country).

Reading that and knowing what I do about history I got a chill, it comes right out of the socialist hand book a German private wrote 70 years ago.
Privatizing industry, arming up for war, silencing opposition, accusing outside forces of trying to take control, Welcome to 1930's Germany.
My guess is soon we will hear about a coup of sorts, claiming that forces tried to oust Chavez again and he will use his military to eliminate those factions. Any one ever study the "night of the long knifes"?
it is very scary that things are taking a turn like that in Venezuela and no one is saying much besides "It's an internal matter." "It's not our Problem." "Their leader just wants peace." too many times in history people said those words and the end result was catastrophic.
Hell even the Motto is starkly reminiscent of Nazi Germany.
Your party has not been hijacked, but it does seem to have forgotten what that form of socialism brought this world no so long ago.
ADD ON: You should stay a Democrat, they need more rational thinkers like you, and losing you would be a terrible loss for them... Wait... no... become a REPUBLICAN PLEASE!
hehehe.

Maybe you are just maturing. I have known may conservative Democrats in my life. Most Southern Democrats were and some still are Conservative , but not many unfortunately these days. I agree with you that Socialist and way left wackos have hijacked the Democrat party and it will take a long time and something major to dislodge them. It may take A nuke in new York or some thing worse before some people wake up. Churchill said (paraphrasing) "Some under 30 that isn't a lberal has not heart and someone over 30 who isn't a conservative has no brain." I think he was right but you need bioth a brain and a heart to live. I think the heart is shown everytime we lend a hand to those countries who say they hate us when they get hit by some natural disaster. The socialist in the Dem organization won't leave unless you do something about it. Some one also said " Even the most ardent Revolutionary becomes a Conservative the day after the revolution." so if the socialists have taken over your party they are now act in a conservative way to keep their hold on it. I also think that today there is not much difference between the two parties on many issues.

Hugo Chavez is a full blown communist dictator. Generally, socialists believe in electing a leader and usually do not force their beliefs onto other people using arms. This would be the case in many European countries where they have socialized health care and 60% income tax rates. Exactly the same stuff the democrats here in the U.S. want for all of us. They usually try to convince people that their "outlook" is true and correct. Even though it is far from being the right politically because socialism achieves absolutely nothing. In so far as Chavez is concerned, there really are few differences between him and Fidel Castro. The only difference is that Castro's time here is quickly winding down and Chavez is just getting started. Hopefully the Venezuelan people will take up arms against him and his cronies and eliminate them all together before things get really out of hand.

Venezuela isn't a socialist country any more than The People's Republic of China is a republic.
There is no point in listening to anything Chavez says.

Everybody is looking at the socialism part, but not at the fact that Chavez believes that the U.S. is planning to attack them to gain access to the oil. Sound familiar? (hint: Iraq).
The U.S. doesn't have a nice history in South America. We owe Nicaragua $17 billion dollars for reparations due to terrorists attacks against them during the Reagan years.
If you would look at the impact of the U.S. then you would understand why Chavez is fearing an attack from the U.S.
One last thing. You said that their ideology has come before their country. Well, what do you think about this comment?
"...The president defended his push to bring democracy to regions of the world untouched by such values for decades or centuries...."
It seems as if the ideology has come before our country, which is the U.S. We go to war to push our ideology on other countries. When Bush couldn't find his wmd's then he changed it into bringing them democracy.
Also, his rhetoric is nice, but it's not true. We don't want democracy in other countries. We have crushed many attempts to do so. In South America and the Middle East. Iraq is one country.

I believe so and it's shameful. Chavez is a very dangerous man. I would like to see him overthrown immediately.
