My hubby injured his lower back/tailbone area several days ago. He sneezed and that threw something out of whack, that's when he started feeling pain, but before that he was also in the garage lifting some boxes. He's been to the chiropractor two times so far and is signed up for a month of chiro, and most of the lower back pain has actually already went away, it's now just his tailbone (and not the tip of the tailbone but above that - the tailbone itself) that hurts real bad. He's been laying on the couch and if he stands up it starts spasming. He's talking about going to the doctor in a week if it hasn't cleared up by then (but I don't want him to go that route because you know doctors and the back - I'd rather go the chiro. route). He's not overweight/big belly, good diet, moderate exercise. Does anyone know of anything he can do for this to heal it? Any stretches, perhaps, or anything at all? Anyone go through anything like this...? Thanks! :)

Start with some moderate exercise to strengthen the muscles and stretch every am and every pm. ~GL

You can bruise a bone, just takes time to heal. He can try taking an anti-inflammatory like asprin, Advil or similar.Tylenol is not an anti-inflammatory.
It could also be the joint (sort of a joint) between the tailbone and the hip. The chiro can usually help that.
He can try ice, or heat. Usually ice is better for stopping pain. Put 15 ice cubes in a Ziploc with 1 cup of water. Put clothing or a thin towel between the icebag and the skin. Leave on 10 minutes or longer. Sometimes acupuncture can help if it doesn't get better soon.
Most backaches get better in a few weeks. If he has pain going down his leg or can't maintain bladder control, he needs to go to the doctor right away. Resting on his side with a pillow between his knees might help. Good luck.

It's possible that he has some inflammation causing the spasming. He should try taking something like Aleve, and use moist heat on it.

I have nothing against chiropractors I go to one myself when needed. However I have found a great difference in the type of chiropractors.

One is what I call from the school of the pretzel. They twist you around and pop your back etc. The other kind use a table that adjusts so that when the chiro puts pressure on you the table section pops up and cause the adjustment to happen. This kind of practitioner is usually very gentle and is not as traumatic on the body.

is seems doubtful that he did any real damage by sneezing, maybe lifting boxes at work did something. most mechanical back pains from the neck to the tailbone resolve themselves without intervention. unless there is some dislocation or fracture which seems unlikely, the condition should improve after he works it out, by stretching and routine exercise

how old is your hubby?

for pain, you can give him pain relievers, celecoxib is good, its what my mom uses with very little stomach upset..but that wont address the real problem. a doctor still knows best dear.

theyll be the one to say if he has fracture or slipped disc or whatever, if he's too old perhaps he has osteoporosis. try giving him calcium supplements..

if thats ordinary back ache, then complete bed rest will solve the trick, but who are we to know? lay him not in the couch. it must be a flat bed, no foam added.

work up must be done honey, so if you really love your hubby, go to the doctor before things gets worse and end up with complications and disabilities, i hope not,..
