My hubby injured his lower back/tailbone area several days ago. He sneezed and that threw something out of whack, that's when he started feeling pain, but before that he was also in the garage lifting some boxes. He's been to the chiropractor two times so far and is signed up for a month of chiro, and most of the lower back pain has actually already went away, it's now just his tailbone (and not the tip of the tailbone but above that - the tailbone itself) that hurts real bad. He's been laying on the couch and if he stands up it starts spasming. He's talking about going to the doctor in a week if it hasn't cleared up by then (but I don't want him to go that route because you know doctors and the back - I'd rather go the chiro. route). He's not overweight/big belly, good diet, moderate exercise. Does anyone know of anything he can do for this to heal it? Any stretches, perhaps, or anything at all? Anyone go through anything like this...? Thanks! :)

I had something that sounds similar...The base of my tailbone and lower back was so painful that i could barely sit or stand (all this on moving day!!)Anyhoo the chinese Dr. chiropractor used some sort of what seemd like a wet rock or sponge that conducted electricity and produced soothing jolts on my tailbone. after about twenty minutes the pain was gone and it never returned..that was over three years ago! don't know what the technique is called but i'll bet your chiropracter does!!

Tail bone injury takes a long time to heal. Pain killers will only give you temporary relief.
Try giving homeopathic medicines :
Arnica 1M : Single dose followed by Arnica 200 - 4 pills 4 times a day.
Rhus Tox 200 - 4 pills 4 times a day
Ruta G 200 - 4 pills 4 times a day.
You can also ask the homeopath (or dispenser) to make a combination of Arnica/Rhus tox/ Ruta all 200 potencies and give you pills of about half oz bottle. You may need to keep taking the pills for a long time.
Application of Arnica mother tincture on the affected part also helps.

MY hubby was in similar situation. we just decreased the stress on the tailbone with a donut pillow, which helps to prevent the tailbone from the stress. if the pillow is not available you can try a bath towel rolled and placed like a donut. Every time he is sitting he is making sure that his tailbone is hanging in the donut hole. It really helps. And he also takes Tylenol Extra as needed.

Read about Sciatica. It goes away when it's ready to. He obviously has not enough back and abdominal muscles. Nerves are very close together there. He needs some rest, but I also suspect he has no flexibility in his legs. The legs muscles are connected to the back. He needs a physical therapist or a well- rounded chiropractor to recommend exercises, for without proper exercises, further damage can happen. Been there, done it.

I'm a chiropractor in CA. The fact that his back went out when he sneezed tells me he has the underlying issue of weak core and stabilizing muscles. He needs to strengthen up his core muscles (specifically the multifidus muscles). Plank exercises and exercises on a swiss ball may be helpful. Ultrasound and ice may be helpful for localized inflammation. Contrary to popular belief he needs to get movement into his joints. Joints lubricate and receive nutrition through movement. So have him start taking walks of 15-25 minutes every day. He also needs to continue with specific adjustments to the affected area. Hopefully this is helpful.

Don't see the chiro for this! See a doctor. It sounds like a pinched nerve, which needs to be released. The doc will probably X-ray to make sure nothing is cracked or broken & if not, give him a muscle relaxant and send him to physical therapy. If not released soon, the nerve is likely to be badly damaged. Don't wait!
A good exercise is to lie on his side, first one & then the other, & repeatedly try to lift his knee up to touch his chin.

Some forms of treatment: "sitz baths, which involve sitting in a tub of hot water; local anesthetic creams; massage; muscle relaxants; electric stimulation devices; counseling; biofeedback; and sometimes even anti-depressants. The problem with most of these treatment options is that, although they may provide temporary pain relief, they usually do not address the root of the problem and, thus, do not alleviate the chronic pain that people with this condition experience."
That's only a strip of information though,

I had a similar problem, but it might not have been the same thing. I bought shoe inserts, you know the gel kind. I carry alot of equipment on my body all day at work. As soon as I got them the pain went away and I havent had a problem since. I also stretched but I would still recommend he go to a doc.

keep going to the chiropractor and when the chiro thinks he's ready for exercise he will give them to him!after a car accident i went to one id rather go the chiro way, than a doctors way the thing with chiros is that its going to take that long for your vertebrates to back to where they were and if it starts to spasm call him back mine even gave me his cell phone just in case (your hubby put his back out )and after a few adjustments hell feel back to his old self good luck
