You cannot. Simple. Theres your answer. Dot coms are a saleable item and not given away for free. To get a dot com you have to pay. Its not that expensive neither you know. I set up a dot com site, 49$ for one year that includes registering the name and twelve months hosting. Maybe you should look at a blog, there free, my profile has more under adsense.

Hi Lily,
Nice day to you.
Do you think about this question before you looking for something free?
What kind of "QUALITY" the product or service that you will received if that product or service cost you free?
Or do you wish to spend some money to make your website's appearance looks more professional. So that your visitors will come again you repeatly and continuously.
I rather to spend a hundred to make my website more valueable and then return me back a thousand or even million.
You should looking for a service that can fulfill all the requirement for your business website. Otherwise that is very hard for you to convince the customers who visit to your website.
Today there are many online experts can help you to create a website just within 1-2 weeks time. You no need to know anything about web design or programming. Just tell them what do you require for your website, the rest just leave to them.
Some also provide the supporting service to their customers to consult their business to success.

Remember, if you can spend $10 now and then get you back $100 or $1,000 or more, this is an excellent INVESTMENT. Go ahead.
Wishing you success
p.s : If you be willing, you can read my real story and experience in how do I start my own internet home business and use it to earn money for me. Feel free to email me a blank mail with the subject "Real Story". I will share the story with you.
Kindest Regards,
Chris

Acquire and download the Netscape browser which comes with an HTML webpage authoring/editing tool called "Composer." Both the Netscape browser and Composer are free downloads.
Set a Homepage up using Composer at your current Internet provider, i.e., homepage.aol.com.etc.
And when you really feel comfortable with your web design and what to open it to the Net, acquire a domain name from godaddy.com and using their forwarding/masking services [which is free] link the domain name to your homepage URL.
Good luck!

Nowadays, you dont.
If you want a top-level .com domain, you'll probably have to shell out a few bucks.
Sorry!
