You are high on caffeine but to answer your question thoughts are just part of the cognitive reasoning skills we use from our brains, otherwise we'd be braindead by now like sponge. As long as you have an iq of a sponge you'll be obsessed over something

Thoughts are expressions of sensations deep in our mind. Let someone talk to you in encouraging, loving or motivating manner. Do not think yourself, just listen, and let the energy of thoughts be absorbed. Then you will feel that you are left with good feelings and good come to your mind as if they are naturally and spontaneously. But you are not thinking then what in the mind is mechanism that thinks? The fact is that all is in you, as it has always been. Someone has just tuned your conscious, or thinking mind into a happy mode.

Thoughts are the interface between an outside world and the deep mind, the mind of supper realities, dreams, feelings, admirations and wishes. And yet there is something deeper still as not all people have similar types of dreams. But thoughts are the first stage of the process of realization of what is in our mind.

Imagine an ocean. The crest-to-crest length, frequency and the height of the waves upon the surface of an ocean show how deep and vast an ocean is. And ocean would be unmanageable without its waves; it would be dead without its ripples, eddies, currents and storms. If the waters would stand still in the heat of the Sun they the entire body of ocean would evaporate into the atmosphere above.

If our mind hides and ocean then our thoughts are the waves and ripple upon the surface. We communicate with the world around us and make sense to it with our thoughts. The ultimate purpose of human thoughts is to live, and to live searching for the best possible way to live. The purpose of a flower is expressed in its colors, arrangement of petals and the time of its bloom, but this is all. A flower, a tree or a bird does not think because they do not have to. All living things in the nature are perfection in themselves and therefore are not searching some ways better still to be, to live. But human mind is. We are constantly seeking and searching; we are not there yet where we could be. Thoughts cannot be stopped, they can be controlled and channeled, but to be human most naturally means to think before we ever may act.

Thought, more than anything else, are the surest sign that we human are not exactly from these parts of the world, that we have some divine connection that make us look at things with a degree of discontent. That we have realization better and higher in the mind that make us observe in displacement, compare and establish the merits of all things in our view. Our thoughts are the dialogue that ensues when our heavenly soul comes to terms with our physical being.

Thought is a self reflective state of mind.
Daily we encounter situations which we immediately deal with.
When at the end of the working day we reflect on our day we think and run through some of the issues which we may feel we did not handle as well as we could have done.
Thought can also be a state of looking towards the future concerning an issue which might or might not happen.
Without thought we as humans could not function, we would turn into robots.
God forbid that will ever happen.

Thoughts, are an energy form produced by the brain. They are electrical, and measurable. Thought, being energy, is eternal. There is not a single thought that was ever thunk, that is not still in existence. Thoughts will go on forever out into space where they collect and mingle with each other. Even the thoughts of animals, and insects are electrical and eternal. Energy cannot be destroyed, only changed. E-mc2 Albert Einstein.

Thoughts are the creation of consciousness, the means through which mind interprets or rationalises reality as experienced. Sensations experienced or made conscious, such as our visual input projected onto consciousness is not thought, but simply perception. It is when these perceptions are interpreted, or translated into abstracted rational ideas, that they become thoughts.

Yet there is a distinction between merely categorising coded data (when not directly received), such as is done by computers which reads the input from the device through software programmed to translate the data into a specified output, and consciousness creating new concepts or ideas from prior ones or selecting learned frameworks of interpretation for analysing the input. The computer is not conscious, it cannot be said to observe, merely to receive.

Without thoughts we have no will. Without will, we are not free. Without freedom we cannot exist independently from the whole and would therefore, strictly speaking, not exist, meaning, there would be no ‘I’. Thought are thus our coming into the world, with each thought we re-construct and re-create or re-assert ourselves, which becomes through absorbing reality from within and without.

The practicalities of thoughts are obvious. It aids our survival through knowledge regarding ourselves and the world and provides us the potential for manipulating the world creatively, making the world our own through reflecting our being as manifested through concretised thoughts . Thoughts define us as much as emotions, though emotions are immediate while thoughts indirect, but thoughts are our agent in merging the internal and external world on a rational basis, our carriers of communication, knowledge, meaning, purpose, aims and goals, morality and politics, and, most importantly, creativity.

Thoughts are for us to make a judgment through reasoning or firm up an intent for action or move into the world of imagination to temporarily escape the reality. The first category is passive thoughts, the second is active thoughts and the third is idle thoughts. Thoughts precede all our judgments, actions and creations.

For the first 2 questions I'll leave it to the field of moral and ethics.

Thoughts are mind impulses that initiate actions or construct knowledge based on previous materials. They can be triggered from memory, learning, or even responding to others.

As for the last 2 questions, they are pretty subjective, so I'll leave it up to you. :-)

Sounds like you would benefit from a course in Samatha meditation, where these questions are dealt with in a practical way. See if there is a local meditation center available to help you.

Thoughts are just thoughts. Whether you're able to comprehend that thoughts are just thoughts, all depends on your current thoughts, and on your future thoughts... I think. But that was all just a thought. So nevermind.
