Ok, the songs that immediately come to mind would be obviously "Stairway To Heaven" as everyone's already mentioned. Also things like "Smoke On The Water" (Deep Purple); "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" (all by Queen); "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Long Way To The Top", Highway To Hell" (AC/DC); "I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night" (Kiss); and "My Generation (The Who). But I'm not sure how many of those actually come under "classic rock"... I'm really bad with genres =)

My vote is "Dogs" by Pink Floyd.

You want air guitar? Try "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent. Doesn't work for greatest classic rock song but may be the greatest air guitar song of all time.

Jimi Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner"....the last song closing out the infamous first Woodstock music festival.

That one song, witnessed by many of rock's FUTURE great musicians the day and second the event happened, was way way ahead of it's time. I think even Jimi sat back later, listening to the song and probably said........well, you get the idea.

It's one of the few instrumental pieces of rock music, I feel, captured dead on bulls-eye target a clear social snap-shot of the 60's and just what was going on during such turbulent times.
