Yes I have noticed that and it is the general rule of spelling with the i and the e played out almost perfectly and precisely.

It is what I would call english spelling rules executed the way some unknown linguist would have us use this most bastardized of all languages.

It leaves out any semantic interpretation of any kind and makes absolutely no inferences to any moral conclusions.

The rule is :

Letter I before letter E, except after C.

Really, nothing more and nothing lesss.....!

The word Piece has the word Pie in it?

Coincidence...?

I believe that it is a coincidental accident of spelling conventions. The word has a history that includes other spellings. It means nothing for me and my belief system, other than the fact that our language is alive and changes constantly.
