The USA works on 110volts and 60hertz. Australia is 240v, 50hz. Get a transformer to convert the 110 to 240 and you will be able to run your appliances. You will find, however, that things that run directly off the mains rather than rechargeable batteries will run slower because of the 50/60hertz difference which can't be reconciled. If your hair dryer or electric razor plug into the wall, they will run slower.

Don't bring a hair dryer. They draw far too much current for a cheap or non-heavy transformer. If you just use a plug adapter they will burn out immediately and could start an electrical fire. Many Australian hotels have hair dryers in the bathrooms wired into the wall.

Electric shavers are OK if they have a dual voltage switch, but will need an adapter plug. If they do not have a dual voltage switch, they will also burn out immediately. Australian wall switches are down for on and up for off, the opposite to the usual US arrangement.

Look at the "kropla" site for more information. Australian wiring is type "I" on that site.
