Their bones cannot grow properly and are all cramped 2gether. Some die of the unbearable pain while others just simply die as they were infected

I can't tell you how many layers there were, but the main reason for death was infection. The girls' bones were broken and bent back to form the desired shape and to restrict growth, then tightly bound to keep them from growing further.

I don't know how many layers, but many died because sometimes the bindings were so tight that bones were broken, and infection set in. Also, most of these women lived their entire lives in pain because the bindings actually caused their feet to become deformed.
