It does sound like a yeast infection. You do need to see a doc if you've never had one before. Also, you and your boyfriend can pass it back and forth even if he doesn't have symptoms, so I would stop having sex until it's cleared up, and have him get checked out so he doesn't give it back to you after you're cleared up. And eat yogurt, it will help clear it up in addition to whatever the doc gives you.

What is a vaginal yeast infection?

A vaginal yeast infection is irritation of the vagina and the area around the vagina, called the vulva. It is caused by an overgrowth of the fungus or yeast Candida. Yeast normally live in the vagina in small numbers, but when the bacteria in the vagina become out of balance, too many yeast grow and cause an infection.

Vaginal yeast infections are very common. About 75 percent of women have a yeast infection during their lives. And almost half of women have two or more yeast infections.
What are the signs of a vaginal yeast infection?

The most common symptom of a yeast infection is extreme itchiness in and around the vagina. Other symptoms include:

* Burning, redness, and swelling of the vagina and the area around it
* Pain when urinating
* Pain or discomfort during sex
* A thick, white vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese and does not have a bad smell

You may only have a few of these symptoms and they may be mild or severe.
Should I call my doctor if I think I have a yeast infection?

Yes, you need to see your doctor to know for sure if you have a yeast infection, especially if you've never had one before. The signs of a yeast infection are similar to those of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) like chlamydia and gonorrhea. So, it's hard to be sure you have a yeast infection and not something more serious.

If you've had vaginal yeast infections in the past, talk to your doctor about using over-the-counter medicines.
How is a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed?

Your doctor will do a pelvic exam to look for swelling and discharge. She may also use a swab to take a sample from the vagina. A quick look under the microscope or a lab test will show if yeast is causing the problem.
Why did I get a yeast infection?

Many things can change the acidity of the vagina and boost your chances of a vaginal yeast infection. These include:

* stress
* lack of sleep
* sickness
* poor diet, or extreme intake of sugary foods
* pregnancy
* having your period
* taking birth control pills
* taking antibiotics
* taking steroid medicines
* diseases such as poorly-controlled diabetes and HIV infection

It sounds like a yeast infection. When you go to the doctor, you may want to be checked for diabetes also. A large number of diabetics get yeast infections. Also, have you been on antibiotics lately?, because that can cause them also. OK, back to the yeast infection. Treatment: If you are not lactose intolerant and like yogurt, eat yogurt twice a day, a brand like Yoplait with live cultures,and take some Acidophilus pills, two in the morning and two at night. You can also take two at lunch if the infection is really bad. You can find them at any grocery store or drug store that sell vitamin supplements. Get the kind that say "with live bacteria or organisms". It is a dietary supplement. It is usually very inexpensive also. Less than $5.00 for 100. In two or three days the infection should subside, but go ahead and take it for at least 5 days. Also, since yeast infections can be contagious, have your boyfriend do the same thing. THIS REALLY WORKS!

Sounds very much like a yeast infection and if your boyfriend was not using a condom when you attempted sex you might want him to get treated for whatever you find you are suffering from because you don't want him transfering it back to you after you have it cleared up.

Don't worry, this is nothing to be embarrassed about, many, read most, women suffer from some female issues in their lives and it's not indicative of poor hygene or lack of care, it just happens.

Hope you get this resolved quickly, I know it can be very painful and annoying.

That sounds like a yeast infection. They hurt like hell. Ask the doctor for a medication called Diflucan, a pill that'll wipe it out in short order. Meanwhile, put sex on hold until the infection is controlled. Until that time, it will only cause you great pain.

If you don't want to go to the doctor, I would suggest buying one of the new tests out there that can tell if you have a bacterial infection. They are called Fem-V. You can buy them at Rite-Aid and a few other stores, also on line. Vagisil also has a new test out that is a swab that you stick inside you to test your ph level. If the tests come back abnormal, you would then need to go to your doctor. Good luck.

it might be an infection due to viruses in ur body, you should seriusly see a doctor before the infection can spread to the rest of ur body. i use to have this problem and it may sound weird, but i use the athlete's foot creme. You just stick ur finger inside, (gross, i know!) and like yea. a coupld days, it'll be gone. you could trey seeing a doctor or use the cream i told u about. ur choice!

May be thrush - but you should see a doctor just to be sure.
i would say have a bath /shower and use a non soap/ fragerence based shower gel. Then put on some natural fibre undies (like cotton.)

May be put on some cream if it is dry down there, but I'm not really sure about that one!
