It has nothing to do with supplements,color prints,Holidays,Families staying at home on weekdays etc.

Weekend newspapers have more pages, which means printing it cost more. Studies also reveal that there are more readers that read newspapers during weekends. This means newspaper companies print more copies of newspaper, which result to higher overhead cost. Most weekend newspapers also use more color.

Inserts aside, they're almost ALWAYS larger (and HEAVIER) than weekday papers. Plus, MORE people buy the weekend additions- because they have the time to read them, & they tend to feature "Wrap-Ups" of the weeks news. All of this- adds to the cost.

They include many articles ,sales events, advertisements,TV guides travel,comics, points of interest etc. that the weekday paper does not.

It has to do with more content. There is usually additional parts, sections, catalogs, and other things included with the original newspaper.
