If he has long finger nails only on one hand then he might be a Classical Guitarist or a musician that plays a string instrument that needs to be plucked by finger nails.
Either that or he is a freak.

Could be gay, could play guitar, could like the convenience of being able to scratch himself or open plastic on CDs etc, could have more important things to worry about than his fingernails, could just like having longer fingernails and figure it's his body his business.
