i think it is a pretty name also but i prefer not to use it as a first name, i like my kids to have their own first name :) and as my mother passed away i will be using her name as a middle name. so thats why i would liek to change it up a little

I like the name Mavis but if you don't why dont you ask your grandmother what alternatives to her name you could use that way she gets pride in helping you figure out the name from her's.

Well I don't know your mom's name, but Elizabeth Mavis *insert name here* *insert Last Name* might work. I have two middle names. I have an aunt who can't have kids and her name is Eliza Jane. So I'm Elizabeth Joy. Then my mom gave me her maiden name and the collective last name. There's no law against having 4 names instead of three.

By the way I'm not trying to say name your kid after me, Elizabeth just seems to go well with Mavis. Ashleigh works too though.

I love the one who suggested your grandmother help you. Is this to be your only child? If not Robyn can be a middle name for either sex.

Mavis is really pretty. My great grandma's name was Emma Isabelle and I love it. My others were Cora, Hester & Kate.

My maternal grandmother was Mary Margaret named after both of her grandmothers.

Mavis Grace sounds pretty to me.

I like the idea of having your grandmother help you pick out a name. That would be very sweet.
Maeve has a similar sound to Mavis -- but a different meaning.

First Name Mom's Name Hyphen Mavis
First Name Mavis Hyphen Mom's Name

Or you could use your grandmother's middle name or maiden name for a first name or in combination with your Mom's name.

I don't think "Mavis" would be a favor to this kid. A name has a real effect on how a child perceives herself. A name that other children perceive as strange gets its owner mercilessly teased and is a social handicap.

I suspect that "Mavis" is a variation on "Ava," which is unusual but quite pretty and easy to spell. That might be a workable compromise.

I suggest giving your little girl a beautiful classic name and, perhaps, her great-grandmother's original surname as a middle name.

Mavis is a pretty name... what about if you name the baby Mavis with a middle name, like Mavis Cadence or Mavis Elizabeth? or something liek that

I worked with a lady who wanted to do the same thing, she wanted to name her daughter after her grandmother whose name was Mavis, she called her daughter Maeve (pron Mave) as a shortened and perhaps more modern version of Mavis.

other suggestions
Maris
Mavess (I saw this name once and asked how to pronounce it and it is actually pronounced Mavis, was told it was just not as old fashioned in spelling when written.

I also agree with what someone wrote previously and you may be able to use her middle name as your daughters first name.

good luck.

Why not actually name her Mavis on her birth certificate and then just call her Mae.
Either that or varients of Mae
-Ella Mae Robyn
Annamae Robyn
-Maya Robyn
-Maye Robyn
-Maegan Robyn
-Avis Robyn
