It depends on your car. Cars are designed with that in mind, but as cars get older, the AC become inefficient. And also older cars don't always have electric fan so it is entirely dependent on the mechanical fan.

But of course you should always keep your eyes on the temperature gauge. If you see the guage rising fast, you should (a) turn off your AC (b) turn on your HEAT full blast - this will accelerate cooling of your car little better. If that doesn't help then now you have problems.

I wouldn't leave the car running while you go shopping or whatever... You're just asking for your car to be stolen.

Also, you would be wasting alot of gas. The minute of waiting for the inside of your car to cool down would be better than wasting money on gas.

No, it is a waste of resources, and a really good way to get your car stolen. In many cities it will also get you a well-deserved ticket.
By the way, if you leave your car running, and it is stolen, you will have a hard time with your insurance claim.
