have you noticed that your hearing is not as good as it use to be? I had to get a hearing aid and I have an GN ReSound digital in your ear canal type. Does anyone have the digital one you wear outside the ear that is suppose to have better quality for background noise?

I'm 50. I went to lots and lots of rock concerts. My ears rang for an hour or so after each but I'm not going deaf (as far as I can tell). I'm losing my eyesight though!!!

I agree with those people who think the earphones will cause worse deafness because I'm sure the exposure to loud noise is longer not matter how many concerts you went to.

Can you imagine the 'Rock & Roll Nursing Homes' in a few years. ;0)

Hell, there are more reasons than rock concerts....clubbers are going deaf for the same reason. I had mumps as a child and have a hearing loss in my left ear in the voice range as a result. Can you imagine the kids today...with the closed sound in a car running at least 120 dB! These kids will have severe hearing loss by age 35, count on it.
I know little about hearing aids...I do know that those who use conventional aids loose much in translation from background to needed hearing. And I cannot imagine enjoying music much with these things. If you find out anything that is positive, please write me, for my turn is just around the corner, that is for sure. Goldwing110083

Digital aids DO amplify only frequencies within the speech range, regardless of the size or site of wear. Conventional aids amplify all sounds.
I would recommend seeing an audiologist, rather than just a hearing aid dealer. Audiologists have either a masters or doctorate degree (Aud D), plus a year-long fellowship prior to licensure and certification. Hearing aid dealers are trained only by the company whose aids they sell.
It is against an audiologist's code of ethics to sell you an aid that is inappropriate for your type and degree of hearing loss, or to push a certain brand.

The veterans Administration will not provide or assist in obtaining hearing devices for vets with hearing loss. They claim that loud noise is not the cause of the hearing defect. They can't say what is, but rifle fire, automatics weapons fire nor artillery are the cause.
