Jitterbug has a very nice cell phone that has easy to read buttons, and no confusing icons, for around $147.00.
See it at the link I have provided.

The best solution I've found to reading them is to wear my glasses and/or(usually and) get a magnifying glass. The new i-phone from the Apple people looks like it has a fairly large screen... It might be better but find the largest screen you can for sure.

If one has fits with them, try not to use them.

You can also try using a headphone connected via a wire to the cellphone, rather than holding the phone next to your ears.
