"The customer you called is not available, or has traveled outside the coverage area".

Phone cut off? Did they reeeealllly travel outside the coverage area? Turn the phone off on their own?

This person has gotten their phone cut off in previous times, but I never received this response.

Also....this same person gets like a little hint that their phone is going to get cut off, how? By them not being able to call from their phone, but still be able to get incoming calls....how is that possible? The funny thing about it is....that actually happens to him. LOL.

Sorry about all the questions jammed up into one.

The person has T-Mobile. Plus at this moment the person is at work....where they always have signal. So is this like a nice way of the operator saying their phone is cut off in a nice way?

OK, usually that would mean that the person is not in the service area or possibly a problem that the phone is not getting signal and even the voice mail cannot pick up. Happens occasionally.

Yes there is a partial suspension where the party is able to receive incoming calls but when trying to place an outgoing call they receive a message stating that due to the status of their account this phone cannot make outgoing calls, until the bill is paid current basically. And yes, it is kind of a warning. It is very normal for T-Mobile to use this kind of suspension.

Either the provider of the person you called has a limited coverage area, or they actually turned the power on the phone off.

Depending on the provider (Sprint is one of them), there is a limit to how much their bill can be (it's called a spending limit by Sprint). When the usage reaches a certain level, their outgoing calls are cut off, but they can continue to receive calls for a limited amount of time until the bill is paid.

Hope this helps!

Knowing which carrier would help answer your questions but in most cases if their phone was simply not receiving service it would go straight to voicemail. Often the carrier will send you a text message letting you know that you need to pay your bill....or else. I know that Sprint may allow you to receive incoming calls for a few days before they shut you down completely to help save you the embarrassment of looking like a deadbeat. If you try to place an outgoing call it routes you to care...pretty subtle huh ;)
