The Media has another think coming if they think they can control the thoughts of strong willed independantly thinking Ron Paul grass roots supporters. Here is what an associate recently said about him:

My association with Ron Paul comes from having volunteered a LOT of time in his Congressional campaigns from 1996, when he won a seat in Congress in a district adjacent to the one in Houston that he represented into the mid '80s (and was strongly opposed by the Republican Party establishment), thru probably the 2000 election. He can run much more limited campaigns these days because he has little opposition ... odd, don't you think, since he's winning while holding positions that other candidates claim that they can't win with.

While working in those campaigns and riding along on other trips throughout his very large district from time to time, I had plenty of chances to discuss issues with him and can state with absolute certainty that he lives and breathes the philosophy of freedom. He IS authentic. He did not run for office so he'd have a good paying and/or high profile job ... he ran so that he'd have a larger platform from which to articulate the message of individual liberty and limited govt. His Congressional votes are so tied to the Constitution that lobbyists don't invite him to lunch or contribute to his re-election.

It would be cool to relate a personal anecdote or two involving the details of some of our discussions but that wouldn't be appropriate I don't think. It's true that he'd have no problem fitting in around this place. As an example, guess who his son Rand is named after.

It's been probably ~2 years now since I've had a chance to chit chat with him, however, I communicate with staffers much more frequently. I don't know anything about his views on 9-11 other than what he's stated publicly. Going back a bit further, he was outspoken about the official govt story regarding Ok City and TWA Flt 800 (but I don't recall exactly what he said about either).

I like Ryan's answer, but I don't think "scientific" polling is accurate anymore. A couple things wrong with it. They don't poll 18-29 year olds (supposedly they are too difficult, don't have land lines all the time, and don't vote anyway). I'm 28, and I vote, I know lots of friends will vote only because of what has happened in the last few years, and people actually care.

The internet was not as mature as it is now when Bill was elected, or even when GW was elected the first time. Things are a little different now. No one knows how user generated media will shift power from mainstream media control, to us, the people. We can learn about anyone with just a few clicks, something that was difficult back then. We talk to each other faster, hopefully we are more passionate about politics since loved ones or friends might be half way across the world.

When you get polled with a poll with Ron Paul in it (say that 10 times fast), I guess they ask if you are Republican first. Well if not, do they even mention him to you as a choice, or do they go straight to the Democrat candidates? I know a lot of Democrats that would vote for Fred, or Ron this time around. I know a couple libertarians, and they are going for Ron. The people that don't have any affiliation, like to hear about Ron, and would likely vote for him as well. That's a pretty large group of people that don't get polled, and so you come up with a 2 or 3% for him in polls.

I think he has a serious chance, simply because his supporters are super passionate about him. Why aren't the other candidates out there in force? Is it because they are all of the same old cloth (dirty rag) as the choices we have had before? I think so, and in that case, it's not right for them to eliminate him from anything. They have eliminated him from the Iowa fair tax forum, and guess what, 500+ people are showing up to meet Ron, next door to the same forum on the 30th. People flying in from Florida and Colorado, showing up in Iowa. Why?

These news networks are not polling the right people.

They are only polling those who has their noses clued to the corporate established media (who hardly ever mentions the name "Ron Paul").

The 2% figure they come up with is terribly flawed people!

He has won virtually every online and text messing poll (he even came in 2nd in the Fox News Debate Poll at 25%).

If that's happening, no it isn't right. But I doubt if that's what is happening. I'm so tired of hearing the Paul supporters whine about the press, whine about how everyone and their brother is trying to hold him down, and on and on and on. The truth is that the man is UNELECTABLE. He offends a good portion of the American public by being an American apologist and he actually thinks we can be isolationists in this world atmosphere and survive - not to mention his oh so brilliant idea that the CIA should be done away with. He seems to be a good man and I can tell he loves his country and reveres the Constitution. But his ideas are just not appealing to a large enough number of Americans to make him a viable candidate. Honestly, I understand devotion to a candidate one believes in, but I draw the line at making excuses for their unelectability by blaming everyone else for his lack of support.

Okay, all you Paul supporters give the old thumbs down, I know if it's one thing you seem to hate, it's logic when it comes to Ron Paul. It MUST be a conspiracy.

I've not heard anything about it but that's not to say it's not happening. If it is, it's just another fear factor like an educated public.
That's it for me, goodnight all. As is normal, I've had a great time with Dems, Reps, Libs, Cons, and the rest of the usual group that make P&G an interesting exploration.

Typical. I am all for Ron Paul. I also know that the reality is that a GOOD man will not win this election.

Yes the free market states that you focus on those who you think will get the best ratings and have the best chance of winning. What is Mr. Paul polling? 2%?

They have to get him out...he tells the truth...and the truth is scarey!

EDIT TO ADD---

There is a strong grassroots movement for Ron Paul. I am proudly a part of it!

What political party has control of the media? Not hard to figure it out then extrapolate that to the reason why they want his point of view silenced.
