I want to add more memory but I don't know which my laptop takes. It's a Compaq Presario V2000.

You can check the specs for your system from the manufacturers website or you can download this utility that will tell you:

I use this program all the time when I work on windows systems to determine the processor and memory type.

According to http://www.crucial.com your laptop takes PC2700 DDR. 1GB per slot up to 2GB max.
