i have about 20m of extension cable from my phone line to my modem would this affect my internet speed?

nope...as long as the connection on the ends is solid and that the phone line is not running parallel with any high voltage power cords, etc.

It probably won't reduce it enough for you to notice as long as there are no breaks or shorts in the cable.

The longer any sort of wire is that carries data, voice, etc will increase the amount of "loss" in the signal since it has further to go. That loss is compounded with every extension you add to it. For example, if you plug a 10 foot extension into the main DSL port there will be minimal loss. Add another 5 foot extension to it and the loss increases. Best rule of thumb I've lived by is if you have to use an extension, get it all in one length since the loss of 1 single 20 meter cable is less than the loss of 5 4 meter cables connected together.

Verizon tech. support person I talked with a while ago on this subject said that they recommend that you do not use any telephone wire longer than 5ft. between your modem and telephone jack. If you need a run longer than that - use Ethernet cable.

yes only if the cable wire is too.cos it will cause signal lost
