The electors in each state are determined by which ever candidate receives the highest vote total for that state. In other words, it is really 50 elections, most all are winner take all. The people who will be the various state's representatives haven't even been chosen yet (officially anyways) for 2008. Here is a link:
(BTW, yes, the GAO has found problems with the voting in 2000 and 2004. It is up to us, the people, to do everything we can to see that these types of abuses of power stop, and basically, lock up the people if it can be determined who was involved...see second link)

Possibly so, however, sometimes the process can work the way it should. If the popular vote is over and succeeds 66% or 2/3's of the Peoples vote, the electoral vote needs to be near 100% against a candidate to vote otherwise. There is always a silver lining.
Be optimistic. Get to the poles and vote with a mass of people at 3PM PST, and make sure that all your friends vote at the same time in their region of the country, the servers will over load, and we will likely see the victor by 6PM PST, etc. etc., nothwithstanding that the new president knew he won the election months ago, our votes could rock the world. Look at the nobody Clinton who got elected, he and Bush suck, if you ask me.

The electoral college was created to give smaller states a chance to get their voice heard. You should read some of the documents by the Founding Fathers ... very interesting and enlightening. I personally like it. Besides, it's going to take an amendment to the Constitution to change, and that's not going to happen.

The whole election process was invented to allow representatives to count votes in their districts and then ride horseback to Washington to report the vote.
It's basically a joke given today's technology.

And we should abolish it. But I doubt very seriously if a Republican is electable.
This happened in 1876 during the Tilden /Hayes election. But Hayes did not necessarly steal his election the way Bush did.
