You will find the way they want to make this happen, very subversive to say the least... Microchips should take the form of I.P chips, storing all your internet, works, health care, credit cards, debit card, music, phone numbers, and on in a single I.P chip, where your IP number will not only be used to surf on the net, but as a working id...
Of course, they are still a decade (at least) away from being capable to do this, since the memory capacity of this device need to be around 1terabyte.
Still China is working on this, and since it is supposed to accelerate everything, and make everything safer (over there, the IP chip will also work to id your cellphone, and protect against identity theft). Also, I would not be surprise, if it doesn't include some kinds of GPS...
Anyways, still science-fiction, but don't underestimate them at making the population do what they want!!

Maybe if they made the chip the size of a sewer lid and hung it around my neck I might consider it. Or even better, a large box with all my bona fides that would fit nicely into a government issued little red wagon might be cool. Maybe a very long wire from my butt to some government headquarters would be acceptable. But a 'chip' inserted with a needle.....? Don't be absurd. Who would allow that? On the other other hand I don't think there will ever be more than one other person on the planet that will go for my sewer lid, red wagon or butt wire solution. I dunno...I'll have to pass on the entire idea.

No way, not for any reason what so ever would I allow
myself to be micro chipped. I would rather face death,
in fact that is the only way they would ever get one on me.
After I am dead and I am quite sure there would be several
dead before they got to me.

if the government is making it mandatory, yes. I would not be the first to jump in line but if the government wants to make things tough for those that don't do it, they will have many that are not willing to face the hardships that the gov would place on them. Resistance will be futile and all of those sitting in the comfort of their homes at a computer spouting how they won't do it will be among the first in line. Especially when it is required to have the chip in order to be allowed internet access, which will be even more regulated by the government by the time chips are used.

'Not willingly' is probably the best answer. A lot of people will resist but when being chipped is a requirement to getting money, they'll all give in except for a few diehards.

The scariest part of this question is the fact that almost every answerer agrees that it's a possibility. We should be able to laugh off this question as if it read, "What would happen if the sky fell on your head?" It would never happen so no discussion is needed. It just goes to show how close we are to losing our rights to decide what happens to our own bodies in this country.

No, I would not. I believe at that time the government has become too overly oppresive then it is time we took Thomas Jefferson's advice to abolish it and set up a new one. I , as I hope others as well, would exercise my Second Amendment rights. Give me Liberty, or Give Me Death!

No... that's like making it mandatory to have a tonsilectomy.
Besides, I've seen a cat get microchipped. That's a big freakin' needle.
No, I'd have to go against the law on that one.

It would depend on the reason. This is a very vague question. Being in the military, my ID already has a microchip containing all my info. If the chip is for identification, it would eliminate me from having to carry around a card. If they could further put my financial capabilities in the chip (i.e. debit/credit cards) that would be even better.
If the chip is for tracking purposes, I would be a little more skeptical.
Of course the ultimate answer would be a result of my analysis of the way the government has been acting in relation to civil liberties.
