I think that red would look more natural, and i don't recomend using a henna dye. A henna dye will mess up the chemical balance of your hair, so much so that you won't be able to dye it again until it grows out. Red will also fade quickly. Black is something that would be very very dramatic on you. But as others have said i would have a salon do it, because in doing it any color at least two shades away from your hair complications can arise. Bad complications like burning your hair, it turning orange, or green..or the dye spotting and having uneven color. If you dye it black and don't like it, your gonna have a hell of a time getting it out without visiting a salon to strip your hair. And also a semi-permant dye in black will probably not wash out. A friend of mine dyed her hair black with a semi-permantent dye and it wouldn't wash out. She had light brown hair. She had to goto a salon and have her hair stripped of color,a nd then cut shorter to cover up the damage from the dye and stripping.
so my vote is for the red, like a cool red auburn would look really cool.

I think it would look cool to do fat red streaks - a lot of pros internationally recommend L'Oreal - you could try Henna for a really natural light highlight change - they have auburn and you can purchase that at the health food store. I'm about to try the new Clairol Shine stuff - it looked amazing, I don't know what colors they have but they have one just for no color and I couldn't believe the results, I can't find it anywhere.

I would stay with the red. It will look the best and look More natural then the black. I would go to the salon to make sure that you get the best for what you want. If you go with the products something might go wrong.

I would say go to a salon to be totally safe that you won't hurt your hair. I would go with whatever you feel but red heads are AWESOME!! Also black will make you look paler so if you are cool with that then go for it but I would say adding red to anyones hair is never a bad idea. Hope this helps.
