Hi, Maricar! I don't generally agree with the most answers. Modern TV gives a lot of information to our brain, and everybody is tired of it. The adult can switch off the program, when he fill that he is tired, but little baby cannot say you that she is tired. You should understand that watching TV is a continuous work for our brain, even we think that we have a rest. Moreover, most of the pictures from the screen enter in our dreams. A baby cannot understand most of them, so she can have unease dreams, and it can bring to shatter the nerves. I think, your daughter can watch TV, but don't do it excessively. I allowed my 4-month son to watch TV only 5-10 minutes per day, when he became older (1,5 year old) he can watch nearly 30 minutes, now he is 6 y.o. and he can watch films during 2 hours. But if he watch a long film, I don't allow him to see something else at the same day. I limited him in watching TV for health of his eyes and brains.

Yes..... Babies like TV. It is very stimulating for them Things with bright colors music active commotion, and Commercials. Just watch you will notice if the baby is doing something else when a commercial comes on the usually will perk up and turn to watch. It get more noticeable as the yet older. All my new Nieces and Great Grand Daughter likes to watch tv.

I would not worry if you are just letting her see something to go to sleep. Maybe she likes the sounds of the tv. Try turning on a radio at a low level to see if that soothes her. At this age she is just curious about all that movement and the colors. I would not put her in front of the tv for hours on end, but a few minutes to get her to sleep, or so you can use the restroom..etc.... is fine.

it's okay as long as the baby is not too close..
you said that the tv stops her from crying, you should make sure that does not become a habit or else she is going to become depended on tv entertainment. My cousin is 2 years old now, and he cries everytime we don't let him watch tv. If you want to keep her entertained, trying introducing her to toys with colors or toys that make sounds.

While there's nothing wrong with letting a four month old watch a little TV, face to face time with mom is always a better option.

It is ok to let your baby watch tv but make sure you introduce her to other things during the day. Babies like the colors and active motions on the tv.

No, that is not ok. There is no reason a 4 month old baby needs to be watching television, heck even a 1 year old doesn't need to watch television!

my 4 mo old LOVES tv but we limit it, we only let her watch it with us (like a movie or a show we watch) or 1/2 hour a day otherwise, she love it!!! but my pediatrician said it's not really good for them. they like the movement and sound but aren't really getting anything out of it. they need you.. the interaction etc.i also haven't let her get used to falling asleep to the tv, that is a VERY bad habit to get into!!!

Its fine just try to make sure she doesnt get too much tv. Also make sure she is watching educational things and not violent things. TV can be a great learning tool even at that age as long as she is watching the appropriate things.

I can't imagine there's anything wrong with it. She probably enjoys the variety of sounds, colors and images.

Just don't use it as a babysitter. In other words, make sure you spend plenty of time with her, talk to her and interact with her rather than just plopping her in front of the TV because it amuses her.

Good luck!
