Well the struggle between the Ottoman Empire and Armenia is VERY old and it has always been about territory. Several times through its course of history parts of Armenia have belonged to the Ottomon Empire as a result of seiges, wars and broken promises. Then in 1915, the turks organized a massive genocide of Armenians and are still in possession of half of its land.

P.S. There is a religious issue at hand here as well--Armenians are the only Christians in the Middle Eastern region.
