In the third film, young Indy (River Phoenix) steals Coronado's Cross from the men digging in the cave. They get it back when the sheriff makes him return it. Then the scene changes to a boat in a storm where older Indy (Harrison Ford) is reclaiming the cross before the boat explodes.
