I think I would act as though nothing has happened unless they say something to you. Even if you were on your break you still should have asked them if it was okay to use the store phone for personal calls. Someone else at work may just be putting you on, too, and no one has recorded or listened to your calls.
Seriously, business phones should not be tied up with personal calls. You can't go 8 hours without talking to your boyfriend?

Ive worked for a couple of places that record all phone calls BUT I was advised upfront at time of hire. Unfortunately there probably isn't much you can do about it unless they for some reason terminated you because of something said on the phone calls, if that was the case you could fight it because they didn't make you aware all calls are recorded. Anyway, sometime you should politely tell them you would have appreciated it if they would have made you aware of this, if you had known you would have never made personal calls on that line as it is an invasion of your privacy when your not on the clock.

the US supreme Court has ruled that it is illegal for someone to listen in on a phone conversation unless they have a Warrant. BUT if they announced that they are going to start recording all calls then they are in compliance. At least one of the parties has to know that the conversation is being recorded. For example. If you and I were talking on the phone and you recorded me but I didn't know it .. it would be legal since you were the other party. BUT in your situation if they are listening and you didn't know or wasn't supposed to know then its a problem. I would get a lawyer and file a law suit. you would easily win due to your fourth amendment rights.... Good luck,,,, If you do win you can send me a percentage :-)

Depends on the state you live in. In some states, you can record a phone conversation as long as one party to the conversation knows that it is being recorded. Otherwise, what they have done is an illegal wiretap. In your case, neither party knew the conversation was being recorded so it sounds like it is an illegal wiretap. If you want to lose your job, you can report them to the police; however, I don't know if the prosecuting attorney would pursue it.

When in doubt, don't. You should not use the work phone for personal calls unless you ask permission first. Go to the payphone which probably sits just outside the store. It eliminates any issues.

Good grief, to the idiot that compared an employer listening in on a personal phone call to the US government monitoring the phone calls of terrorists. Terrorists whose network flew 3 of our planes into buildings and crashed the fourth into a field! Sorry Liz, but you are a complete idiot to make such a comparison.

I don't think that is right for them to do that. But it is their phone. I'm sorry to say that I don't think there is anything you can do about it. If I were you I would try not to use their phone. If you do be sure to keep in mind they are listening. If you say something about it it may affect your job. So just keep your cool and good luck.

No, it is not an invasion of privateness. various places of business enterprise have recording units in recent times (eg. corner save, gasoline station, department shops, ATMS, etc.) to ward off theft, stunning? properly, the theory is the comparable consequently different than that's getting used to deter people from breaking the regulation by potential of dashing and doubtlessly hurting/killing others.

i think you've lost this one. most places strictly enforce not using a business phone for personal calls. you should check in your employee handbook if you have one. regardless, it'd be a good idea to stop using the work phone and talk to your boyfriend after you leave work.
