A manual would be cheaper and get better gas milage. Providing you already know how to drive one.

Get an automatic. With lock-up torque converters in use now for about 25 years, the automatics are almost as efficient as the manual trans. The mileage difference is usually only 1 MPG or so.

But if you are stuck in traffic, rowing through the gears gets old fast. Also you will find that every uphill grade, you will be down shifting, and then shifting back up as you go down the grade on the other side. Sounds like fun - but again - it gets old fast.

Last, if you really want the gear control, get an auto with a "manu-matic" mode - where you can either use a lever or paddles to shift up / down when you want to, and let the transmission do it's automatic thing when you get tired of playing.

Get the manual.

Manuals provide better gas mileage, look at the adds on TV, the small print always states that the mileage quoted is with the manual trans.

They are also much less likely to be stolen, most people can't drive them, thieves included.

Definitely get the manual transmission. When (not if) the truck won't start because of a bad starter or solenoid, you can roll the truck down a hill and pop start it with the clutch.

I personally would get a automatic. The fuel ecomomey is less with a manual because tend to hold gears longer the necessary before shifting.

get a manuel it is cheaper and save more gas like if you need to go 45 mph you can put it in 5 gear and it will lower the engine rpm so less fuel being used. also you have more control of the truck like if your brakes go out and you need to stop you can down shift till you stop and if your battery died you can push start your truck. if the transmission goes out it cheaper than a automatic.
