I'm going to be a undergraduate freshman this fall majoring in chemical engineering. I'm thinking about applying to med school in 4 years. What should I do to prepare? Should I change my major and do something like biology? What else should I do to get into a good med school?

WHY do you want to go to med school? Are you driven to help people and learn how to be a true healer? Or, do you have more base motives? We don't need any more doctors that are into it for the wrong reasons - we have too many of them already.

If you are passionate about becoming a healer, then chemical engineering is an excellent major to prepare you for a career in medicine. Be sure to take all of the required classes needed to qualify for medical school. Bust your butt (after all you are highly motivated to be a healer) in all of your classes. A high GPA and high scores on the MCAT are needed in the competitive world of medical schools.

Chemical engineering is a good major for a pre-med. you will have to take a lot of courses in biology but just in case you don't get into medical school you'll have a more valuable degree. You may want to try and work in a medical related field either volunteer or paid position because that will help you get into Med school. You should join a fraternity or some college club to keep yourself well rounded. Good luck, its very competitive.

Speak with an advisor about what a good pre-med curriculum would be ... biology and chemistry would be good. Keep your grades up. Find out which universities have med schools. Find out when their application deadlines are. You will need to register for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). There are study guides and classes on how to take the MCAT. Keep deadlines in mind. The application deadline will control the question of by when you should take your MCAT.
