Once your money is taken or er given in taxes it is not yours anymore, but theirs to redistribute as they see fit . The liberals of today think that the most important job of government is not what the constitution instructs like having a strong military to defend our country with, instead it is to make everyone equal. In their minds only then will people be happy. Just because bill over there worked hard all his life and is successful and earned all of his money legally the fact that he has more then poor Richard is just not right! Even though Richard never had a job more then 3 months at a time and would rather sit on the couch watching soap operas all day and cry with Oprah in the afternoon. Capitalism is just not a fair system! It's not enough that people have the same OPPORTUNITY to have what they want through hard work,it should be there right to have the same as others just because they exist. So in order for that to happen they need to do things such as what Hillary Clinton has been promising us she will do if elected president. And some are, take away what she feels are unfair profits from any company she chooses too, and of course raise every ones taxes by getting rid of Bush's ridiculous tax cuts. It is their birth right to run this country and only they know what each and every one of us needs. They think they can tax this country into prosperity. That is about as possible as a man standing in a large bucket trying to lift himself off the ground bu pulling on the handles. Then there is the war on terror, they seem to think that global warming is more of a threat. Both major parties have many flaws, but when it comes time to vote again next year do you want a leader who believes he/she can manage your life better then you can and will spend most of their effort to protect you from climate change rather than Islamo Fascits who use methods of unspeakable terror to kill all that don't believe as they do. And will continue to do this unless stopped. After all John Edwards (Dem running for president) said the war on terror is nothing more than a slogan on a bumper sticker. Your choice folks.

It is the libs who are responsible for the entitlement society and the degredation of minorities. It is a disgusting ploy by the libs to gain votes.
As far as all the other answerers for this question who are obviously bleeding heart libs that accuse conservatives and republicans of being in bed with big business, I say look at the economy and the DOW right now. Until libs created this disgusting immigration bill that has thrown both parties and the Dow into a slump, the economy was setting records. It is still in pretty good shape. Unemployment is at its lowest in decades, even lower than during clinton's pathetic administration which chaps the hides of all his lib lovers. If they are in bed with big business it seems to be doing the whole country a great deal of good. 40 of the states reported surpluses for the fiscal year. The federal deficit is ON SCHEDULE to be cut in half several years ahead of schedule which is something that the lib media will never report. Every time lib economists try to stifle the economy with scare tactics about housing or inflation, the economic growth negates the words of the naysayers by outperforming predictions. Eventually, we will have a recession again, but do not underestimate the power of the current thriving economy to prove false all the know-it-alls waiting for the sky to fall.
Anyone who is capable of producing an honest effort can make it in this country, even SOME of those that supposedly cannot help themselves. We do have a responsibility to help those who have sacrificed all of their lives to raise a family, fight in a war, or build a business, who are no longer capable of being productive. It is those who lay on a couch all day and gain 500 pounds that disgust me. They become unproductive and totally useless to society well before retirement. It is not just "food addicts" that fit this description. Unfortunately, there are many that breed children just to get more welfare benefits, take low paying jobs just to keep their food stamps, drop out of high school sit on a couch and expect the government to subsidize their laziness. This sort of abuse of the system I cannot abide nor should the govenment.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but it got me thinking.
Charity is a roundly good thing. The problem with charity though is that it has clear limits, that it creates nothing permanent. Charity can build schools, hospitals, etc., where they wouldn't otherwise be built, like in poor Africa, but it is reform and healthy social programs that will KEEP THEM RUNNING. Otherwise, they fall into disrepair because the charitable effort to build a school can seldom sustain it.
Reform is charity with permanence. The classical liberals (that is to say, the "conservatives" and Libertarians) have a problem with this before they see social programs as stolen wealth, that taxes are a form of stealing and coercion, and that charity is morally acceptable because it is voluntary. It's just sad, to me, that this logic isn't applied to surplus value, which is the ultimate theft of all, and the source of all poverty. But anyway, because of this anxiety around taxes, they will try and try to show how charity can do everything that social security and subsidized health can, but unfortunately, it doesn't, never has, and probably never will. Look at the billions and billions going into world health and thet WTO from the Gates Foundations and elsewhere. Times (or Newsweek, or something like that) had a cover article a few months bakc about how all that money is going to waste, falling into bureaucratic holes and whatnot...
Charity is good, but reform should be held, I believe, in higher esteem.

First of all liberalism and socialism are two different things. Try looking at something called a "dictionary"--if you've never see one, just ask someone with an education.
Second--how do you define those who "can't" help themselves?
And before YOU "rant and rave" think about this. If you have a society that denies adequate education to some of its members--as ours does--the children growing up without that education, whatever their ability, are not going to be able to "take care of themselves."
And then when you claim that those--e.g. "welfare mothers" are "lazy" etc.--but create a system in which that mother cannot earn a living--cannot get welfare as a suppement if she does try to work, can't get day care to work or go to school--and doesn't know how to get around those barriers because she doesn't have that basic education--you can't condemn her for sitting on her butt--that's the only way you've left her to get enough food for her kid. And she puts that kid first. Which makes her light years ahead of all the so-called "advocates of personal responsibility" in the morality department.

I as a liberal feel that 1/4 of the money spent on Iraq should have been used to completely rebuild the welfare system to not be abused by anyone. I also think another 1/4 could have been used for paying tuition for thousands of students that can't afford it.

Why do Republicans (nazi's) constantly rant about this subject when they don't even bother to read and learn about their own party that has a history for contributing more money to not ending this problem then Democrats. Maybe you all vote for the wrong party. Since most of you don't even know why you vote Republican in the first place.

Just pay your taxes they will pay to feed them don't worry. Maybe give'm a house to destroy in you neighborhood. A car to get to the unemployment office. etc...If the car breaks they will even send a social services bus to take them.
I am tied of seeing this stuff too. In other country's I have lived in it is practically nonexistent. Unless we are helping to rebuild it of course.

Why conservatives think that I should throw my tax money at big business to subsidize their profits?
You spend much more tax dollars on corporate welfare than programs like WIC, TANF, and SSI.

Because, you think people should help themselves, if able. The socialists don't believe that we are capable of that, therefore, those in need someone to be taken care of,This fosters dependency which they love as it add more mindless sheep to their flock.

Because Conservatives (ie NAZIS) would never notice who can help or not help themselves. They are only worried about who can help them and for how little.
