I am divorced and kept my ex-husbands last name because we have a daughter together. I would sign my legal name on legal documents of course.

OK so my legal name is my ex-husbands last name and the name I still use today for anything legal (car, house, banking, etc). We have a child together which is why I was told to keep my ex's name. I want to put my maiden name on my invitations since that's what everyone knows me by anyway. I will take my new husbands name after we are married.

on the invites, use the name you go by everyday. this is what people know you by. you could add your maiden name with a hyphen if you like.

Because you have children, you retained your married name; but on legal documents~car, house, boat(as if), etc.~you use your maiden name? Is that right? Most confusing since we are talking about the same person.

Perhaps you did not realize, that after a divorce, you are given TWO options for name retention::Your Maiden or Your Married name ONLY CAN BE USED. WHICH ONE YOU 'CHOOSE' AT THE TIME OF YOUR DIVORCE, IS THE ONE YOU PLACE ON THE NEW MARRIAGE LICENSE.

You may have caused more heartache for your heirs, by using different names simultaneously during your life. Insurance policy awards can be held up, Social Security benefits for minors can be held up~I KNOW, YOU SAID FOR LEGAL DOC'S YOU USED YOUR LEGAL NAME:::WHICH ONE IS THAT? THE ONE WITH YOUR EX?

IF YOUR CHOOSE TO USE THE EX'S NAME FOR THE CHILDREN'S SAKE, YOU SHOULD HAVE USED IT EVERYWHERE. IT IS STILL YOU. EX-HUBBY COULD GET NOTHING AND EVERYONE WOULD HAVE NO TROUBLE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THAT YOU ARE YOU.

I hope you understand what I am saying. IT IS NEVER WISE TO USE TWO DIFFERENT NAMES DURING THE SAME PERIOD OF TIME WHILE LIVING.

MISS MANNERS DICTATE THAT YOU USE YOUR LEGAL NAME...DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO BACK TO YOUR MAIDEN NAME DURING YOUR DIVORCE PROCEEDINGS? THEN THAT IS THE LEGAL NAME TO USE ON YOUR INVITATIONS. GOOD LUCK

PS. I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR LEGAL NAME WAS:::MARRIED NAME PERHAPS?

Use the name you go by now. If you still go by your ex's last name then use that one.
