My sister is 24 and doesnt have any insurance, or really money for that matter. She got injured at work a few years ago but they didnt pay for it, and she cant work until after surgery, which wont be until october at the soonest. In september she will be visiting her boyfriend in Hong Kong but before then she wants to get on birth control just in case, what are some options for her? I'm going to help her where I can but will be a little tight on money for another month or so. I want her to get started ASAP incase she has problems and needs to switch as I did.
Could she go to planned parenthood even though she is an adult? If not, what other options are there? Does planned parenthood cost anything? Any info would be great.

Thanks for all the answers so far.
We both know abstinence is best, but she'd rather safe then sorry. This guy is all but her fiance...its like, they know they are getting married but he has another year or so in school first, so its not like she's sleeping around. She also would like to control her irratical periods.
She is not on unemplyment or disability. They tried to say it was preexisting and wouldnt give her a penny, and it just got so bad she had to quit. She has absolutley no money and is living with mom. The closest to an income is the backpack in child support our dad occasionally chooses to send, so basically, any money she has for this is mine, and i'm already putting what I can for her surgery so this whole sliding scale thing sounds great.

She can ABSOLUTELY go to planned parenthood!! It's for women of all ages who prefer to visit a clinic as opposed to a regular OB/GYN. Reasons for using them range from privacy to cost.

Planned parenthoods will generally work on a sliding scale based on income. Meaning, the less you make, the less you pay and the more you make, the more you pay. When I was in college and had little to no income, I paid $40 for the initial exam and $5 per birth control pill pack. In comparison, a pelvic exam at a normal OB/GYN, including lab work, is probably $300-400 (without insurance) and generic BC pills can run $30-50.

Where I live we have free clinics for women and birth control can be provided free otherwise a sure thing is abstinence. I know that does not sound like a option but it is if you do not want to become a parent.

Well, the way I get mine for free is I go to a clinic. Find a women's health center in the area and call to see what they can do for women with no insurance. Many will have a committee that can be billed so that your sister won't have to pay anything. I have never been to a planned parenthood, but I would say your safest bet is to call and tell them the situation and see what they say or what their suggestions are. good luck.

Planned Parenthood isn't only for teens; it is for anyone who needs sexual education and birth control assistance. They work on a sliding scale based on how much you earn.

She can also check her local health clinic. Public health clinics are available in most major cities (and many smaller towns & principalities), and they work on a sliding scale. As she is not employed (is she on unemployment or disability?) then they would bill the public assistance fund.

She can go to the Health Dept and get Birth Control at no charge. I have health insurance, but they still give me my BC pills at no charge and when I go and pick them up from the Drug Store I don't pay anything. But you have to go to the Drugstore that they tell you to go to.

Planned parenthood will be happy to help her. I think they will help her for free. Give them a call, and good luck to both of you.

I would tell her to stick to oral and anal sex only. Or to practice coitus interruptus (pull out method).
