with all this hoopla over whether he's good or not, I would just like to remind everyone that most wizards and witches are able to cast spells without saying them out loud. is it not plausible that he cast a spell to make dumbledore appear dead so that malfoy wouldn't have to do it or be seen not doing it?

this is not a question for anyone who only watches the movies. the movie version of HP have misrepresented spells on several occasions in order to play up to the movie going crowd.

The killing curse moved Cedric Diggory in the book. Harry saw him lying spread-eagle on the ground. If Cedric hadn't been pushed or thrown backwards in some way, he would have been in a crumpled heap on the ground, not spread eagle.

And non-verbal magic is used when dueling, in order to mask your intentions from someone who is able to defend himself... Dumbledore and Voldemort's duel, for example, has a lot of non-verbal magic. Some have suggested that the unforgivable curses aren't able to be done non-verbally.

I think the best examples of Snape being against Voldemort are:

1. Taking the Unbreakable Vow behind Voldemort's back - a loyal Death Eater wouldn't have taken the Vow
2. Not kidnapping Harry while Snape was on his way back to Voldemort. - Voldemort wants to kill Harry, yes, but why would he be upset if someone delivered Harry into his hands?
3. Not taunting Harry or being his usual snarky self as Harry accused him of being a murderer. - Snape would have made comments like "Dumbledore was a fool" or "You will die soon, Potter!"... instead, Snape instructs Harry about how important nonverbal magic and Occlumency are while dueling

So, I don't think he's evil, but not for the reason of the Avada Kedavra curse working in a certain way.

I never thought Snape was evil and even if Dumbledore IS dead...he was kind of dying any way from that stuff he had to drink...Snape and Albus could have planned this together from the start. Albus so he wouldn't be in pain any more (that hand was nasty) and Snape so he could save Draco and keep his vow.

Because Draco wasn't going to do it. He lowered his wand. He was going to take Dumbledore up on his offer, because he's not a killer.

Like most Unforgiveables you have to MEAN them for them to work right? Well if he didn't mean it...could that mean that Dumbledore is just injured and week and his pheniox is healing him with his song and his tears?

There are so many different versions...whatever did happen...it doesn't matter because soon we'll know and soon it'll ALL be over...saddly...

I think Dumbledore and Snape planned the whole duel. Harry told Dumbldore of his suspicion's about Malfoy being up to something and Snape possibly being involved. I think Dumbledore might have confronted Snape and Snape confessed everything to Dumbledore. So my theory is that Dumbledore and Snape faked the Duel and Dumbledore faked his death. My other theory is that Dumbledore could not think of a way to get Snape out of his promise to Narcissa and so he sacrificed himself so Voldemort would think Snape was on his side and not Dumbldores. Either way there is something more to that duel than we know and I can't wait to find out in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

i dont think he's evil. but i would say alot of ppl do because he's a bit of a jackass and in the movies, which are no where as good as the books make him seem that way because they leave out soo much. idk i guess it just takes alot of thought to figure out weather ou think he's evil or not, going thru all the evidence and its just easier to assume.
i just trust the judgement that he's not. and plus, like you said killing curse has never moved someone when cast.
Snape is just hard on ppl and holds grudges.

Theoretically possible, but unlikely. Seems to me that it would be breaking the unbreakable curse placed on him to kill Dumbledore for Malfoy.

It may very well be possible. But then the rest of the book does not make sense. The funeral, the picture in the headmaster's office, McGonagall taking over?

i think harry has pretty much been pretty solid when picking out whos evil and good in the books and his obvious disdain for snape has been apparent since day one .. so rowling probably was hinting that he truly is evil and always will be ..

until the last book comes out it is all speculation, although rowling has said (as mentioned above) that snape will not be proven good in any sense ..

anyways .. im pretty stoked for new movie and last book ..

: )

Rowling herself has said that Snape will not prove himself to be good. His evil turn is permanent.

I'd take the author's word for it.

Check out her website if you have doubts.
