Debbie: I have been a smoker for 26 years with no regrets at all and us smokers need to stick together more. Smoking is a lifestyle that millions of us enjoy. I personally enjoy it, because it allows me to be more social and outgoing. Its not a crutch but rather an extention of my personality. If it means that much to so many as well as myself, its insane to think quitting could ever be an option.

I am 40 years old and have smoked since I was 18. I smoke because I am addicted but also to have something to do with my hands. When I was a little girl, I had a blanket that I dearly loved. I use to "feel" the silky stuff at the ends of it and it was very soothing to me. My mother thought I was too old to have the blanket anymore so she burned it!! I never had that security feeling until I started smoking. I had a jacket that had that same silky stuff on it, so I cut the jacket up and have started carrying the pieces around with me and get it out when I am bored or get nervous. People think I am crazy but if it helps...it's a lot healthier then smoking. So I say to all you smokers out there, if you have a favorite childhood security blanket or stuffed animal, get it out and don't be ashamed! I don't think anyones ever been kicked out of a restaurant for having a blanket or stuffed animal with them. Hey, you do what you got to do.

I don't suppose I really have a reason anymore. I smoked the first time when I was eight. I got caught. And my parents talked to me about it.
I continued to dabble and when I was twelve, I started smoking regularly. At twelve, I also drank and got high for the first time.
I was off to the races. I blacked out the first time I got drunk and it did not stop for over twenty years.
So, I gave up drugs and alcohol. But, dared anyone to take my cigarettes. I thought that I had given up the "BAD" stuff and I was better just smoking.
But, I just continue to do it. I really want to quit and don't at the same time. But, I have way more reasons to quit than to keep on. I can't think of one reason that I still do it. Except for habit!
So, why do you do it?

I smoke because I'm addicted #1. Other than that it's simply a habit. I enjoy it and I like to smoke. It's also a stress reliever. I wish I didn't like it and I wish I never would have started. For those that don't smoke - never start.

I used to smoke and my god I loved it. I smoked because I liked it! Coffee and cigarettes, that after sex cigarette! I used smoking as a way to have 5 minutes to myself outside, as a way to escape for a break. I quit because we wanted to start a family. All I had to do was envision an ultrasound of my fetus with a cigarette in it's little hand and I was through with them. I sitll think about them, and still love the smell of them. The desire to smoke is still there, trust me.

I'm with Cap'n Dave....I've given up other terrible addictions, so I'm gonna hold on to my coffee and cigarettes for awhile. I'll give 'em up when the time's right, I could use the money.

It's just too hard to stop. Besides, I've given up lots of other addictions in my life and cigarettes are my only crutch.
