If it is a Leopard Gecko, the male will have a line of dots along each of his inner thighs, a female will not. There is also a bulge on both sides of his "anus."

look at the base of the tail. Males will have what is called a hemi-penal bulge, a large bulge at the base of the tail. Females lack said bulge.

well, WHAT gecko... I know that in leos, males have this line near their cloaca and females do not.
