With all the politicians saying they will do this and end up doing the opposite, who votes these days? It seems political parties have changed. Republicans, Democrats, Independ, etc aren't anything close to the descriptions in PolSci or Gov't class. The media doesn't help make voting easier.

I always vote but I never vote for either straight party ticket , I vote for the individuals that seem closest to sharing my views, and usually check their voting record on topics that interest me if they have held another office or position previously as most have, for example councilman running for mayor or Representative running for senator of course they all say whatever they think you want to hear but sometimes even that can be revealing because sometimes they say things that I totally disagree with so I vote for their opponent

Not much in real life resembles what's covered in a Pol Sci course.

Keep in mind you're discussing politics.
It's early in the election cycle. We are watching the major candidates pander to their base for the nomination.

Once nominated they will pander to the middle by appearing moderate.

Once elected they will pander to those contributors who made the last victory possible and who will contribute to the next.

Hopefully, only people who stay current with the issues. Then when they lie, we can vote them out after one term. This doesn't work as long as some people blindly keep voting for Ted Kennedy over and over again.
