is it a quest for points, search for a better answer, a need to feel included in questioning or just plain laziness in thought, that I keep seeing the question "what is the meaning of life?".

I think it depends on the person, searching for the unknown is a start, humans are curious and we are allways in search for more. We all think that there is more to life than just our everyday routines and thats what we need to find.

Many "thinkers" go through this phase in life. The thinker generally experiences a state of depression. Thinking of depressing thought content leads to such questions.

Be careful what you think about.

People should be licensed to think.

I think the reason is that people are just curious to know other people's beliefs or to make other people "think"...that's why they ask that question...or they want so seem cool, or depressed.
