I just got a new job. I am a brides maid in my sister's wedding. I need three days off after the first week I start this new job. Is it wrong for me to ask my boss for the days off?

I've never been in that particular situation but do you think that it is worth it NOT to ask him? I mean it is your sister's wedding. I don't think that it would hurt... Just approach it nicely and tell him that your sister is getting married and you would only need a couple of days off... also it might be good to mention.. if it isn't possible to let me have several days off I understand.
You just need to be careful and delicate because of the fact that you are a new employee...
I think it is worth the risk however because I'm assuming that your sister's wedding is important to you..
If your boss isn't a complete jerk he will probably understand

p.s. I think it was a good choice not to tell them that you needed the days off in the interview.. you never know what slight things will change the opinions of employers when there is a close call when hiring employees

If it is the type of job where you need someone to cover for you and be a replacement tell him/her that you will set it up and have it taken care of

Requesting time off at this point is very soon. You don't want to give the impression that you don't value the opportunity...especially if you don't really know what type of boss/manager you will have.
You can try talking with your manager first, before filing the official request. Let he/she know the situation and see what happens.
You should go in with the expectation that they will say no, so prepare yourself for that answer. Offer to start earlier, spend extra hours to learn the job, or help out where necessary, anything to show your willingness to work and your appreciation for the job.
Think about what you would do if they say no. Weigh the opportunity.
If they understand and say yes, then everything will be wonderful.

You should have discussed this during your interview or beore you took the job and been upfront with you boss. If I hired someone and the first thing they need is 3 days off I would tell them that I no longer needed them. Good luck.

Usually, I would tell you to lie.... However, that is not the route to go since you just began this new job. Congratulations, by the way. You should begin by telling your boss the truth. Be logical, but stern. Explain to him/her how the situation will effect you. Explain that you will make up the hours at a later date. But the most important thing to do since this is a new job, is be truthful.... You will be suprised at how far honesty will get you.... Good luck!

It is going to look unprofessional- especially if you didn't mention it when you were interviewed and agreed to start when you are. However, simply explain that you were committed to the wedding prior to being under employment and that it is a family event. Most employers will be more than understanding.

nope....just be clear with your boss before you start your job that your sister's wedding has been planned for a long time. most managers are pretty nice about family stuff.

yea tell him about the wedding and let him know it's special too you, because if not it's kinda weird you asking for 3 days off after your first week into it

If it's a job that's not your future career go for it!

Tell them what you are doing I'm sure they will understand!!

You should have informed them before you got the job, that you needed upcoming days, i do.
