Six degrees of seperation is actually a theory that holds to the idea that any group of individuals who may never meet otherwise have at least one perison in common seperated by about six other people though this is not an exact number just a general description of the phenomenon. And to clarify, I myself sometimes believe. In fact, this has happened to me on three seperate occassions. The world is a lot smaller than we think. Kinda gives me chill bumps.

hmm..i've heard of it before and till now i'm still not sure whether its a mere theory or has an experiment been actually carried out. What defines the connection then? if seeing the person is sufficient to say that you know the person, i think friendster, flixster and other similar initiatives would reduce the theory to perhaps 5, 4 or even 3 degrees of separation.

Hope this helps=)

No, I don't. After the study that was done to coin the phrase "six degrees of separation," many were done disproving it.

In the first study, letters were sent to people, who were asked to send it to someone they knew who might know the person that was the letter's final destination. The average letter to six people to reach its destination. This test was flawed however, because the people the letters were given too were in the upper class, so where more likely to know more people.

The studies that were done after that used people from the lower class, and the results of the first experiment were never duplicated.

it is a good theory.

in my job it is more like 2-3 degrees of separation, but then all my 'clients' are defendants who have been convicted.....and frankly, most of them are related to each other in some way.

have you seen the play or movie? the movie follows the play very closely. great stuff!! (yes, for those of you who do not know, the play and movie are both called 'six degrees of separation')

I couldn't say I "subscribe" to it, but it's a lot of fun to try to connect people if you play it as a game.

A great belief for those who dislike being alone.

Yes, I'm not obsessed with it or anything but I think it has some merit.
