I just went through a whole day of scannign and ridding my system of a Trojan virus. Everything is back to normal except for when I try to acess "Add/Remove Programs", "Display", "System", etc under Control Panel, I get a popup telling me C:/Windows/system/rundll32.exe cant not be found. So I can't access the folders and I did a search for that file on my computer and nothign came up.

Does this mean the best thing to do is reinstall Windows?

You must have had a realy bad one to take out that file yea its a keystone. I would say yea you need to. If your one of the lucky people that got a restore system disk or its built into a small partitioned section of your hard drive it wont take to long.

The Long part is all those Updates you'll need to download from windows.

You should be able to repair that dll by using the repair console. Here are the instructions.

Put your XP disk into your CD drive and restart your system. This will start the XP installation process. When you come to the screen that asks if you want to install XP or if you would like to “Repair” XP, choose Repair. This will open the repair console command prompt. At the prompt, type: chkdsk /r. (There is a space between the k and the /. Now hit “Enter”. The repair should now start. Allow it to run until it stops. This can take some time, so be patient.

If all goes well, XP will replace any and all missing operating system files.

You could use system restore instead, just roll back to a date before the infection. It's a risk because some infections will actually copy themselves to your restore points, gotta love windows. That's why I use Linux, always have, always will.

Attempt a scan first......

Go to start > run > type in sfc /scannow

It will ask for you Windows CD, that should resolve any "windows' " file problems.
