i hate my linksys wrt54g, so im looking for something else. the budget range is to about $150... perhaps more if i can be talked into it. i really dont know much about them, so ill tell you what i have.
wireless:
2 vista laptops (1-64, 1-32)
1 sony psp
1 wireless pda (i think its a palm pilot 5..its about 3 years old)
wired
1 sony ps2
1 vista desktop
1 win98 desktop (still the best windows ever!)

i want to be able to share all files between the computers, including large media files.
i have a two story home so need something with a good range, the office is about as far away as you can get from everything else.
all the pcs have firewalls... and i think all the wireless cards are 'g's.. if that makes any sense to you.. and i dont want a router that will leave my psp out.
i have a speedstrem 5100 dsl modem.. that i dont think i can replace.. but if i can, id love too.
I dont know the difference between g's, n's, d's
... ill add more details to this question...

the routers ive been eyeing:
D-Link RangeBooster N 650 Wireless Router
Belkin N1 Wireless Router
Belkin Wireless Pre-N router

so please give me some suggestions...
the reason i dont like the linksys, is that it continously denies me internet service on my laptops, and i always have to reset it, and then reconfigure it.
when i try to set it for ppoe service, it completely locks me out (and yes, my modem was configured for this... so im not completely crazy. )

Well just for a different option... take a look at Buffalo High Power 125 G routers. They are around 65-70 bucks and have a very good range and very good operating system.

If used with the matching Buffalo 125 G cards they will actually show about a 125Mb connection .. used with standard G they nearly always get full 54.

(I know everyone loves Dlink etc but check them out.)

if you are very computer smart you could do a reflash of the linksys and put the hack firmware on it and up your transmit power i have the same router and had the same problems look up linksys router hacks you will find the software easy give it a try before you spend the money if that dont work for you then i would suggest a belkin except for my one linksys i have always used belkins and they work great and have decent range dont overheat and work good as repeaters also

it type of feels probable that purely about all those units overloads the bandwidth out of your ISP. in case you disconnect all of them different than the Blu-Ray then it works ok because you have much less utilization. Many analogies paintings right here. A water pipe is nice. If one faucet is open you get loads of water. If 5 faucets are open each and each seems to paintings slowly. Now approximately moving to the mattress room, partitions flooring and residential equipment heavily weaken wifi alerts. N wifi facilitates right here. although if the Netgear isn't twin band (and it appears that evidently to not be) then in case you have purely one G gadget in that team that forces the router to function all connections because of fact the slower, much less wall friendly G wifi. some cable businesses have swifter plans for bigger month-to-month expenses. check out what they provide.

I have a Belkin N1 and I love it. It never goes down and is pretty fast.
