Why do supermarkets always begin with the fruit/Veg dept?

It's really true, think about it!

What was the last grocery store you walked into that started off with the can good section?

Presentation. If they start with fresh fruit and veg, people will think "This is a Fresh store. Everything here is fresh. I will do well." If they started with toilet cleaners, they'd think "This is a Poo shop. Everything here is made of poo. I don't want to shop here!"

Maybe because that stuff tends to be a little expensive so they want you to get a lot when you walk in, rather than seeing it later after you already have $75 of groceries in your cart. Works for me, I always get a bunch of fruit. When I'm in the last aisle (dairy) sometimes I won't get as much because I have plenty in my cart.

I've always noticed that !
I always buy my fruits and veggies, but I hated going
to the canned section, soap section, etc., and keep
having to move the fruits and veggies so that they didn't
get bruised.
Now I go buy all the heavy stuff first then my fruits and
veggies, then the lighter stuff like breads.

My produce section is in the back of the store next to the meat department.

usually yes, and end with frozen food aisle.

Think about why that makes sense as you do your grocery shopping next time!

Or sometimes, now, there is a starbucks or dunkin donuts at beginning!

I suppose it's the most visual of all other departments. They get you warmed up there in hopes you'll want more.

That's just the way it is.......And we have a Canned food store thats all there is....cans of food!
