Here is a variety of bands for you to check out:

Jesus and Mary Chain: Honey's Dead - 1992. Singles were "Reverence", "Far Gone and Out", "Almost Gold" - also check out "Teenage Lust". Also "Cracking Up" from 1998 release Munki. I'm not as fond of 1994's Stoned and Dethroned" but you may recognize the duet "Sometimes Always" featuring Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star (another good band!) Dig further back into Psychocandy (1985), Darklands (1987), and Automatic (1989) too. A highly influential band that has reunited (yippee!) and may be working on another album.

Innocence Mission - Glow (1995) - featuring "Bright as Yellow" which was included on the Empire Records soundtrack. Very mellow. Karen Peris has a unique and haunting voice. Also check out Birds of Our Neighborhood (1999). Still together and released a new album a few months ago.

Over the Rhine - Kind of similar to the Innocence Mission in that they started in the 1980s, feature a husband and wife songwriting team with female lead vocals and lean towards more acoustic music now. Good Dog Bad Dog (1996), their first release after losing their major label deal, is one of my all-time favorite CDs. Also still together.

October Project - Another great band dropped from their label after only two albums - their self-titled debut (1993) and Falling Further In (1995). Gorgeous harmonies from Mary Fahl and Marina Belica. Sadly no longer together but most of the individual members are still making making music.

The Ocean Blue - Sometimes described as the best British band to ever come out of Hershey, PA. Like Live (from nearby York PA and an awesome band in concert), they started playing together as teenagers. Check out Cerulean and Beneath the Rhythm and Sound from their 90s output. Still together, albeit with a slightly different lineup.

Also check out Curve (Toni Halliday rocks!), Charlatans UK, the Creatures (Siouxsie side project - Anima Animus is fantastic), Electronic (alternative supergroup with Johnny Marr - ex-Smiths, Bernard Sumner - New Order, and Neil Tennant - Pet Shop Boys), the Sundays, the Throwing Muses, and Elastica.
