I had three rats for years, but I used a plastic house. I used plastic, because when it it made of wood, they may pee on the top of the house while standing on it (mine always did). The wood will deteriorate and begin to smell much worse. They will also chew the house because it's wood. I recommend a plastic house, and a peice of wood to chew on so their teeth dont overgrow.

A hut made of pine would be Ok. Some pine chips give off fumes when urinated on, but cedar is very toxic. You can just use a small cardboard box or tissue box and change it when it becomes soiled.

As others have pronounced, do in no way use pine or cedar something on your rats cage. it is going to reason bigger respiratory infections that would desire to kill your rats in the event that they weren't dealt with by potential of a vet. the appropriate form of bedding could be some style of recycled newspaper bedding with the ink taken out. i got here upon this to be the appropriate because of fact it became into much less dusty than carefresh and different manufacturers... yet carefresh may be the subsequent appropriate component in case you will not be able to locate any form of recycled newspaper bedding. the variety sunseed makes some - sparkling international bedding. I additionally could tear up products of paper towel for them to create little nests and to shred for the beds and hammocks.

branches from outside are ok, just get some from a tree and make sure there's no bugs or moss or anything, cedar is bad as a bedding because it doesn't absorb very well and that leads to respiratory problems.
