I have a job as an educational aid for summer school.... I help a class of 7 kids all deaf or hard of hearing......

I can definitly relate to them because I too, am hard of hearing - just not so severe. I used to know sign, but as I figured I can communicate without it, I just let it slip......

I am now wanting to relearn it so communicating with the kids won't be so tough.....

Any help is appreciated

http://www.britishsignlanguage.com/

You are best going back to college to learn. Sign language as you know is a 3D moving langauge and is difficult to learn from books.

As you need it for work they should pay for you to go to college and learn it again. As part of disability equality law you should really have sign language if your working with deaf children who use sign language. I am suprised they are letting you work there when you cant communicate with the children very well. I know that is tough thing to say but being honest.

Ask your work about sending you on a course.

I would suggest going online to these sites...
aslpro.com
asl.ms
it's great because it's actual video clips of the signs being performed...
If you already knew sign...you should have an easier time remembering about the structure. I would suggest learning it because you're hard of hearing...you may eventually loose that and it's easier to learn a new language when you're young!! Sorry if i offend...just trying to offer some extra advice!

Go to the library and get a book on American Sign Language. The signs you need to learn are "no" which is putting the index finger and thumb together up and down, "yes" but don't remember, "toilet" which is putting thumb inside curled fingers and side shaking the fist, "pop", etc. Good luck

I really like signingtime.com and my kids love it. They love watching the videos and have picked up on the signs so fast. 2 of my kids have autism and didn't talk until they were 4yrs. old so it was very helpful to have them be able to tell me what they wanted with a sign when the couldn't say it. It prevented a lot of melt downs.
