No, I never have they know it all it does no good to keep things away. Because eventually they hear about it and wonder why you couldn't be honest with them and speak from your heart!

I've always tried to be honest with my kids,but years ago my niece, who was six at the time, had a little dog that was hit and killed by a car. Her mom couldn't bring herself to tell her that her precious cocker spaniel was dead so she lied and said that the dog must have run away and she swore me to secrecy. Just a couple of weeks ago the truth came out (her mom finally told her)! My niece, who is now eighteen, said she was very devastated that her dog didn't love her and ran away to find a new family. She said it bothered her for years and she wished her mom would have just told her the truth. It's kind of funny that her mom was able to keep it a secret all these years!

The moral of the story: Kids always, eventually learn the truth!

no. not even about the little things like "this shot won't hurt".
i always tell them the truth...... i.e. "it will only hurt for a minute and then it will be over".
however, i don't go crazy when they ask me questions either. i give them a little info (depending on the question and what they are ready to hear.... like sex etc.) at a time until they are satisfied with the answer.
i think if i am always honest with my kids, hopefully they will learn by example instead of preaching. i have already found this to be true as my son has always been honest with me when he's asked a direct question.... even if there are consequences.

and i don't even consider santa etc, lying. as far as i am concerned...... i am santa...lol.
when my son confronted me and finally asked me, i simply responded with another question....."do you think there is a santa?....." that held him off for one more year. but when he really pushed the issue, i told him the truth.

Except for stuff like the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy ..... No, I haven't lied to my kid.

I was lied to by my parents over the years about "real stuff" and it truly broke the trust between us for a very long time.

Good Question ..... =}

I don't have kids, but if I did I would lie to them. Tell them you're shipping them to China if they don't stop their whining. Or tell them Santa is going to come back repossess all their toys if they don't finish their broccoli.

The very first thing parents say to their children usually "How beautiful" or "I love you" or both.

Oh yes, frequently. My baby is 3 now, so no, we don't have any more candy... no, sorry, toy store is closed... you can't have a dog because you can't spell it yet. That last one is going to bite me back one of these days.
