ok well, i was wondering if anyone could help me with my problem. i really want a cellphone. not because all of my friends have one, but because i might need it in case anything happens to me or in case of an emergency.. im so embarrassed whenever im around my friends because i have to use their cellphone to call MY house phone. i've been showing my parents that i am responsible but they think i'll just be using my phone to text, but i dont even know how to text! and my mom says that she'll buy me a phone, but it will be the kind that you buy the minutes for. i dont like those kinds of phones. so do you think i should get that kind of phone or one with a contract and plan?

With a prepaid phone you are limited to what you get in terms of features comparing to a contract cell phone plan. I know for instance that Cingular Go plan, Virgin Mobile Prepaid and Boost Mobile has plans that offer unlimited night time and weekend minutes. Text messaging will cost you 10 to 15 cents per message sent or receive depending on the cell phone company. You have to research which company best serves your area and their coverage around where you live that give more minutes for your money. Some of these prepaid plans charge you by the minute for calls and some will offer a bundle of minutes for certain amount of dollars you put into your account.

However with a contract plan, you have to sign up with a 1 or 2 year agreement and if you decide to terminate early then you would have to pay a termination fee of $175.00. I honestly think for your age, I recommed prepaid to test out the company and see if you like it. In the future you could turn that prepaid into a contract account.
