I've seen most people having problem going higher than 640/480 resolution but my problem is that the lowest resolution my monitor goes to is 800/600. I can't get to the lower resolution of 640/480, please help.

It's because of your drivers. Download the latest driver for your monitor and be sure it is installed properly. Some monitors can only handle certain resolutions like 1024 X 768 or 800 X 600.

The graphics card does not have that resolution as an option.
The monitor will be able to use 640x480 if the card has the option. Almost all monitors are capable of using the 640x480 resolution. I have not seen one on a "normal" home PC that can not.

Right click on 'My computer' select properties, click on the hardware tab..

Go into device manager and right click on your monitor there will be an option to update your driver ... try that.
