If EVERYONE stopped caring, what kind of a world would it be? I actually got chills and tears when I read this, because we almost all certainly feel this way at times. Especially when we think no one at all seems to care about us. I may be awfully lonely at times and feeling sorry for myself, but at the end of the road I will be able to say "I know I gave my all. I know I made a difference in some person's life. I know I made someone smile." "Love the world through me, Lord; this world of broken men...."

Only to us.
In the grand scheme of things we are not.

And to some people even in the context of human to human we are not important.
It's all a choice really. We have the power to do many things either to construct or destruct. You can do whatever you choose and have the ability to do.

I just look at it as passing time. So while I'm bored waiting for my inevitable death I do what I can to help make someone's life a little better whether that be being a shoulder to lean on or trying to solve a problem or just giving them something they would cherish--food, a CD, ice in a cup, whatever.

I recognize the futility of it all and just focus on making my senses feel the good stuff of life and helping others' senses feel the good stuff too. It's just something to do. Why not?

Live for pleasure that's not at the expense of others is how I choose to live life. But it's not a mandate that others have to follow.

No more important than any other primate or mammal on this planet.

Humans have a bad habit, largely due to our larger intelligence, of thinking we are somehow special. That we have the right to treat habits and our ecosystem as we please, while the other species sit back and pay the consequences.

The world would probably be a much better place if our species never evolved.

We are no more important or no less important than anything else in the universe. Each thing can be considred ot be of value or to be worthless.

You shouldn't care for someone else's life. If someone doesn't care about their own life, then I certainly won't. If you care about yourself, then you won't need me to care.

The happy-medium would be to care about someone else's life to the extent to which they care about your life. At least this would be an equal exchange of energy.

Your are composed of the same rotting organic mass as everything else

you are not a unique snow flake

you do not matter.

(fight club).

Your life should matter to you because it is just that, YOURS. It appears to be your only shot, so why not make the best of it under the CIRCUMSTANCES. Being nice to people makes them nice back to you.

While you don't have to care, getting what you can through the easiest means is the best way

Although someones life may not be important to you, it is important to other people. People tend to live in their own little universes, and anyone they know is in that universe. Just because you may not know someone, doesn't mean they aren't part of someone else's universe.

if enough are not saved you and all of humanity could wind up being considered a myth like Atlantis. al of human history needs to be saved. and as people are living repositories of knowledge it is important they survive to pass it on. also liking and being liked makes a person feel valued good.
